Astrology for the Week of December 21, 2009

The theme for this week is Burden Basket: Self Reliance. In the Native American tradition, Burden Baskets remind us that we only carry the burdens that we wish to carry and we can choose to let go of them whenever we want to. For each issue that you have, what are you personally getting from it? For example, even though you want to lose weight, by being overweight, you can eat as much of anything you want. The internal conflict keeps you stuck. Burden Baskets also remind you not to put your worries, anger or grief onto other people. Take responsibility for what is happening. That is the first step in letting go.

“Burden Basket carries my grief,
And gives me strength to go on,
Burden Basket reminds me not to take
My burden’s to other homes
Burden Basket sings to me,
When the winter is long,
Reminding me of summer’s heat
Bringing warmth to ancient homes.” (Sams, 1990)

This is an exciting week in Astrology. On Monday, December 21, 2009, we celebrate the Winter’s Solstice. This is the time of year when the Earth is the farthest away from the Sun and it signifies the reversal of the shortening of days and lengthening of nights. It is a significant time in most cultures and is considered a time of rebirth and new beginnings. This truly is the New Year and is a wonderful time to decide what you want to experience the next 12 months. Carefully think about and set your intention.

To help with your intentions, Jupiter is conjunct Neptune. This occurs every 13 years. You will be inspired and energized, so your true desires will easily flow from you. The Sun moves into Capricorn and that will add an element of practicality and discipline. A Venus Neptune sextile will complement this wonderful energy. You will feel harmony and spiritual in your important relationships. As there are no major aspects until Thursday, this energy from the 21st will extend throughout the week.

On Thursday, December 24th, expect intensity as the Sun in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto. This is one of those dual sword energies that will either make you feel powerful or will bring out repressed anger. Remember this week’s theme of the Burden Basket. What do you get from the issues and problems in your life? You need to know and understand what truly motivates you so that you can move on. You have the power to change things if you really want to. Let go of the conflict between your ego and your heart. That is the only way you will find happiness.

On Friday, December 25th, Venus enters Capricorn which will bring practicality into the areas of love and money. It is a great time for planning and organizing and also eliminating ideas, things and people who no longer belong in your life.

On Saturday, December 26th, Mercury goes retrograde. Aggh, the horrible retrogrades!!! Mercury will be retrograde until January 15. Retrogrades are not a good time to start new projects, sign legal contracts, or travel as the energy slows down communication and movement. Communication includes computers. Have you backed up your hard drive recently? The positive side of Mercury retrograde is that it is a wonderful time for contemplation and planning. So, if you have not set your intention for the upcoming year, take the time to do it while Mercury is retrograde.

The cards that I pulled for this week are:
Power: How are you using your power? If you are angry, sad or worried, you are leaking power. Remember fearless/calm. That is how you should approach everything in your life.

The Fool: This is a wonderful card as it says to take a chance. What have you wanted to do but put off because of all the limitations in your life? Remember, your world reflects your beliefs. Your beliefs are the result of the story about you that you believe. Change your story – change your life.

Healing Card: Perform every act as if it were your last. All the spiritual masters tell us to make every decision and choice as if our whole life could be changed because of it. Today, be mindful only of who you are in each and every action.

The Moon is Void of Course this week: (This is the time for business as usual)

December 21, 9:47 am – 3:43 pm
December 24, 12:10 am – 3:40 am
December 26, 3:45 am – 12:27 pm
